Here are some subtle dietary tips to nudge (not cure) a common (no, not everyone tells you they have it!) little skin interuption. These tips work differently for each person.
Considering that more than half of North Americans have oral herpes and about one sixth of us North Americans have genital herpes – here follow a few superficial facts about this super-common infection.
Did you know that it can become harder to spread to others as you age?
Arginine tends to aggravate while lysine tends to abate.
proteins in general and specifically more in plant based proteins such as some nuts (pecan) and some seeds (pumpkin) as well as legumes such as soy, chick peas and peanuts (maybe even cashews)
bananas, avocados, dried apricots, mangoes, beets, leeks, tomatoes, pears, potatoes, green and red peppers (even if one is trying to avoid lectins the first six foods will be helpful). Careful with the lysine supplements if you take calcium supplements or gastrointestinal meds.
Vitamin C supplements (not made from corn products – which means that the supplement label will not mention what it is made from – rather from sour fruit sources such as citrus, acerola berry, camu-camu) is important in general and specifically for overal anti-herpes health and a daily average dose of 1000mg for an average sized person (spread out over the day) tends to make us less vulnerable to the nasty little blisters arising and if the dynamics are such that an outbreak can be anticipated, than doubling the amount of Vitamin C makes sense and can do no harm and is always welcome by our body – a wonderful co-factor.
It’s easy to double-check food sources online – everything from raw and processed / good to bad … .
When you apply arginine to internet search engines, you’ll see many foods including:
fish, red meat, poultry, whole grains, beans and dairy products as well as the ones mentioned above contain this amino acid.
You’ll see it’s an amino acid that also helps the body build protein. It also releases nitric oxide into the blood. Nitric oxide acts to widen blood vessels in the bloodstream, which may help certain circulatory conditions. This amino acid also stimulates the release of insulin to help balance blood-sugar. So it’s not a bad amino acid, it’s just that it emboldens the forming of these blisters.
When you search lysine you’ll find:
bearded seal (Oogruk), followed by coffee, bananas, pears, apples, plums, figs, papayas as best choices, and also cheese, eggs, chicken, grapes, kiwi, pineapple and lemons for example. And it is a positive anmino acid for: reducing anxiety; may be able to dampen schizophrenia; and may even reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol in some people; may even help improve calcium absorption via the gut and helps your kidneys to let less of it out. Lysine can promote wound healing by helping create collagen.
There’s often an emotional component involved in all varieties of herpes. Whenever there’s a relief, a big emotional ‘sigh’ such as having handled or achieved a big goal or gotten past a huge obstacle or made it to a deadline and even euphoria, then the para-sympathetic recouping phase can begin and might also trigger/host a herpes outbreak along with it and does not necessarily mean that the immune system is weak – merely healing from a challenge. In most instances there’s a big sense of a relief and even euphoria.
